An Evening With The Phantom Of The Opera In Malaysia

I received a pair of tickets to see the show but I couldn't make it, so I had one of my lucky readers/blogger friends to see the musical. Of course, I chose someone who would be crazy and screaming for it, no other than my fellow ex-colleague, The Thinkerbell Anis! Since she had an amazing night, I'm a bit jealous that I couldn't come join in the fun so I bullied her to do a post so I could know if the show was as amazing as it sounded. So if you're a Phantom of The Opera fan as well, let's here what Anis has to say. Keep on reading to know...

Hi, Cikcit's readers!

If you are wondering if you've come to the wrong blog, don't fret because you are still in Mira's space; but today instead of reading another of the new mommy rant, I, Anis will be taking over her spotlight for a bit to share about my wonderful experience during 'An Evening With The Phantom of The Opera' show which I attended on behalf of her last April. Spending months working together in Althea (I miss it sobs) along with endless gossips and stories shared together, Mira knows very well how much it would mean to me to be able to watch the show since I am such a hugeeee fan of The Phantom of the Opera musical.

While waiting for the door to open. The area was crowded with the guests and I was undeniably excited as well!

Yes, I know all the songs by heart! So, when she received an invitation to watch the show, she gave the tickets to me instead. Such a sweetheart, right? I am totally touched by that gesture. One of my life bucket lists is to be able to watch the musical on Broadway and being able to get sort of a live teaser of that musical gave me the feeling of butterflies in my stomach. I am totally in love with the Phantom character in the show. He is a bit twisted but pitiful so I found the story amusing, mysterious and sad at the same time.

Beautiful pair and amazing chemistry shown by Michael Cormick and Claire Lyon

I could vividly recall how happy I felt that night. The honour of watching Michael Cormick sang his heart out as Phantom/Erik and as Raoul de Chagny is just unbelievable! Being actually cast as the characters in the musical more than once (first as Raoul then as Phantom afterwards), his voice managed to transport me back to the 19th century, right at the Paris Opera House where the story took place. Serenading us with 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Music of the Night' and 'All I Ask of You', with Claire Lyon acting as Christine Daae, all of us were left agape at the intensity of their vocals. I literally had my hairs stood up upon listening to them singing. Not just that Claire Lyon's rendition of 'Think of Me' is amazing as well! I found myself singing along happily to those tunes that I am so familiar with.

Can I gush about how beautiful Claire’s dress looks like?
Not just that, apart from musical numbers from the Phantom of the Opera, we were pleasantly surprised as they've also prepared a variety of songs from other well-known Broadway shows such as Favourite Things (from The Sound of Music), A Whole New World (Aladdin), Memory (Cats), Beauty and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast) and I Dreamed a Dream (Les Miserables). It was such a treat and I wasn't expecting to hear so many notable musical songs being sung live in just one night. Time passed by so quickly because of that and it was a truly a moment to remember. I just wish they would include more songs from the Phantom of the Opera itself such as Masquerade and The Point of No Return because they are some of my personal favourites from the show. I came expecting a full song list but well, I guess I'll keep that on my bucket list and hopefully will manage to see it one day in Broadway one day!

The show was made even more spectacular with amazing accompaniment by music director Bernard Walz (on the left)

I was informed that some of the proceeds from the tickets purchased will be used to contribute to Tunku Ja'afar Educational Trust and a total of RM320,000 was collected from the show. That's such a great way to enjoy something while doing something good right? I am looking forward to more world-class performances like this in the future! Bring in the actual Phantom of the Opera show to Malaysia would be a great start and I will definitely be the first in line to get a ticket! Anyway, it’s time for me to bid you goodbye as this is the end of my blog takeover. I hope you enjoy reading my random rants about the night.

Thank you so much Mira for the treat and if you want to hear more from me in the future, you can find me on www.thethinkerbelle.com #shamelessplug. Bye!
